This 6 days Marrakech desert tour will take you from Marrakech to the Desert of Zagora and Merzouga and the Draa Valley, allowing you to explore the Great Eastern South of Morocco and its magnificent Kasbahs, as well as the most fascinating regions of the Moroccan desert. In addition to the Kasbah Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate’s film facilities, visit the gorges of Dades and Toudra and spend the night in a desert camp under a Berber tent.
The first day of our 6 days Marrakech desert tour starts at 8 a.m., we begin our Telouete automobile excursion across the high Atlas peak Tizi-N-Tichka, which rises to 2,260 meters.
We will eat lunch in another Kasbah in the same neighborhood named Pacha Glaoui
In the afternoon, we follow the trail that follows Ait Ben Haddou, Ounila through the valley with its Berber towns, and on to Ouarzazate. Dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel are included.
Following breakfast, head towards Agdez through the anti-Atlas at 1660 meters in height. We will continue our journey and arrive at Zagora via the Draa valley. We will pass through numerous Berber villages on our journey to Zagora. After lunch, continue to Tamgroute to explore the historic Koranic library, the kasbah underground, and pottery manufacture. Eventually, we return to Zagora village for dinner and the night.
Following breakfast, we embark for Merzouga, returning through the Draa Valley to join a route that leads to the villages of Taftechna and Ait Ouaazique with repeaters recorders, as well as the Berber settlement of Tazarine and Alnif, where we will have lunch. Following lunch, we continue on to the spectacular Merzouga dunes (Erg Chebbi) through Rissani.
Afterward, we’ll switch to camels as our mode of transportation. They will be taken on a sunset camel ride across the dunes. Tonight, we’ll eat and sleep in a typical nomadic bivouac in the center of the dunes, under hundreds of stars and moonlight.
If you get up early, you will get the finest sunrise of your life. Bring your camel back to the hotel for breakfast and a shower. We’ll visit Possibility Lake, which has an abundance of birds. Next, we’ll go to Khamlia to see the music and culture of the Gnaoua, descendants of slaves brought to Morocco from Mali, Mauritania, Guinea, and Ghana. We circle the Erg Chebbi sand dunes and explore the gloomy Hamada desert in the afternoon, meeting nomads and learning about nomadic life over mint tea. Overnight stay at a hotel.
After breakfast, we drove to Erfoud/fossil town. There are kiosks selling crystals, semi-precious stones, and fossils. Pay a visit to Usine de Marmara. We exit Ewe through Todra Gorge, a narrow route flanked by 300m (985ft) cliffs on each side. Mountaineers recognize these spectacular rocks in southern Morocco. We’ll visit the Dades Valley after lunch to see “monkey toes” and mud Kasbahs. In the Dades Valley, stay in a riad or hotel.
On the final day of our 6-day desert vacation from Marrakech to Merzouga, we will travel back from Dades Gorges to Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass.
